The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has announced the bid allocation mechanism for the 2014 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC). The event is going to be held in the city of Lecco, Lombardy, Italy.
As a principle, all countries get at least one bid for each division in which they sent at least one team at the previous edition of the WUCC, which was in Prague in 2010 (77 teams). Countries that finished in the top 10 of the open, women’s, mixed and masters divisions at the World Ultimate and Guts championship (WUGC) in 2012 get a bid for that division (38 teams). WFDF’s Regular Members who don’t have an automatic bid from the above two allocations get a single bid in the division of their choice (10 teams). Provisional Members who sent a team to WUCC 2010 get a single bid in the division of their choice (5 teams). Italy as host nation was awarded one additional single bid in the Masters division to allow at least one team in each division from the host country (1 team). For the Women’s Masters, there will be a single bid for each of six countries participating in WUGC 2012 plus 1 bid for each of Finland and Italy (8 teams). 1) It will be a 16 team tournament. Nationals is a tourney for only the elite teams, and therefore will always be limited to 16 teams.
2) Based on the continuous improvement in provincial disc, as well as the strong showing in Nationals last year by the 8 provincial teams, the breakdown of teams by region is changing to include a larger share of provincial teams. It is as follows:

Muntinlupa City – The 10th Manila Spirits will kick-off with the Open and Women’s Division on November 16 at the Alabang Country Club. The Mixed Division games will be played on November 17 and 18.
Manila Spirits is the Annual International Tournament organized by the Philippine Ultimate Association. This event aims to showcase the high level of ultimate play in the country, put up against strong teams from Asia, Oceania and beyond. At the same time, it promotes the camaraderie that the growing ultimate community has fostered through the Spirit of the game.
It started in 2003 with 10 Mixed Teams (4 Local, 6 Foreign). In a span of almost a decade, it has grown to be one of the most sought after tournaments this side of Asia and beyond. Players from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, South Korea, Australia, and even the USA fly in every year to experience one of the best Asian Ultimate tourney.
The local Ultimate scene is catching up as well as players from Davao City, Dumaguete City, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro and Boracay have become regular participants of the tournament for the past few years.
This year, a total of 65 Local and International Teams will compete for the Open, Women’s and Mixed Division. The Philippines is fast becoming an Ultimate hotspot especially after the National Team’s final standings at the 2012 World Ultimate & Guts Championships. It’s going to be one of the biggest and most competitive tournament in Asia.
