
Asia’s Top Ultimate Frisbee Teams Compete at the 10th Manila Spirits International Tournament
Muntinlupa City – The 10th Manila Spirits will kick-off with the Open and Women’s Division on November 16 at the Alabang Country Club. The Mixed Division games will be played on November 17 and 18.
Manila Spirits is the Annual International Tournament organized by the Philippine Ultimate Association. This event aims to showcase the high level of ultimate play in the country, put up against strong teams from Asia, Oceania and beyond. At the same time, it promotes the camaraderie that the growing ultimate community has fostered through the Spirit of the game.
It started in 2003 with 10 Mixed Teams (4 Local, 6 Foreign). In a span of almost a decade, it has grown to be one of the most sought after tournaments this side of Asia and beyond. Players from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, South Korea, Australia, and even the USA fly in every year to experience one of the best Asian Ultimate tourney.
The local Ultimate scene is catching up as well as players from Davao City, Dumaguete City, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro and Boracay have become regular participants of the tournament for the past few years.
This year, a total of 65 Local and International Teams will compete for the Open, Women’s and Mixed Division. The Philippines is fast becoming an Ultimate hotspot especially after the National Team’s final standings at the 2012 World Ultimate & Guts Championships. It’s going to be one of the biggest and most competitive tournament in Asia.
